Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Long Collar Book Chain with Heart Design Necklace
Acquiring English sterling silver collar has been an obsession. I have accumulated quite a collection. This unique long collar is from my personal collection.
This unusual long and lightweight Victorian sterling silver collar was hand crafted in England around the 1880s. This collar was created with mainly heart stencil style design links which are hollow or "puffy", can see through from the sides. It is identical on both sides (fully reversible), and can be worn on either side. This is a lovely piece, it can be worn with or without a pendant/locket, with the clasp in front or back to accommodate different styles of clothing. If you are an antique collar collector, you will know how rare it is to find a lengthy collar such as this one.
This collar was tested to be sterling silver, it is unmarked which is typical. To my knowledge, the bolt ring is original to the period but not made of sterling silver. This listing is for only the collar necklace as shown in photo #1.
Since acquiring this collar, it has been sitting in a box most of the time. It is still in the same condition since I acquired it. Besides the normal wear along with a few minuscule indents on a few links, there are no deep scratches, repairs, or damages. The overall condition is quite impressive, considering it is over 137 years old.
There are some patina and has not been professionally cleaned. I leave this up to the new owner. I have only gently wiped with soft jewelry cleaning cloth. A very beautiful original collar like this is rare to find these days and highly desirable, especially in such lovely condition.
Length Approximately: 20” inches, not including the bolt ring.
Weight: 28.9 grams.
Origin: England Circa 1880/ Victorian Era.
Purchased directly from an Antique Professional in England.
A photo with information for this piece will be included. This is what I kept for insurance purpose.
This piece was not purchased at a flea market type of place. Also, it is not reclaimed, recycled, or altered, in any way, otherwise it would lose its value. Under good care, owning an unaltered piece of antique such as this is an investment now and in the years to come.
I have been specifically an antique collar buyer, for that reason, I do my best providing my descriptions as accurate as possible, and to point out flaws wherever I see them. I have included every detailed info that I would want to know as a buyer. Please feel free to message me if there is anything I left out.
This collar will arrive carefully presented in a gift box.
